Founded to honor the legacy of Stanton High School, the Old Stanton Legacy Foundation is dedicated to restoring the iconic century-old building. More than just a structure, Stanton represents a proud chapter of African American history in Jacksonville, Florida. Through education, community programs, and cultural initiatives, we aim to reignite Stanton’s role as a place of pride, learning, and empowerment.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Old Stanton Legacy Foundation is to preserve, protect, and promote the legacy of Stanton High School by securing funding for its reconstruction and rehabilitation in Jacksonville, Florida.

Vision Statement

The reconstructed Old Stanton building will serve as a vibrant community hub, housing business offices, conferencing facilities, a state-of-the-art museum, and hosting educational and cultural events.

Core Values

  • Sustainability -- a 20-year economic impact
  • Community Collaboration
  • Preserving the Legacy of James Weldon Johnson
  • Empowering Future Generations

Established in 1868, Stanton stands as Florida’s first school for African-Americans. Its graduates and educators helped shape Jacksonville’s civic, cultural, and educational growth — a legacy continued today through the Foundation’s mission.

This mission is deeply personal. My uncle, Dr. Charles B. McIntosh — a proud Stanton alumnus now 98 years old — has one lasting wish: to see Stanton restored to its rightful place as a center of excellence, purpose, and service to the community.

This project is more than a renovation. It’s about preserving legacy, honoring those who dedicated their lives to education, and ensuring future generations never forget the sacrifices and successes of those who came before them.

The Vision: From Restoration to Rebirth

The Old Stanton Legacy Foundation is diligently raising funds to restore and transform the historic Stanton High School building.

Spread the Word

I'm really interested in helping youth find themselves and find a place for themselves to become good citizens.

Dr. Charles B. McIntosh
